Trail Report as of 7/9/07

The storm that hit June 29th left lots of damage. As a way to let people know about the condition of the trails I am putting up this post with the hope that anyone with trail information can provide comments. I rode Lakeview, Reeder Bay/ Kalispell Bay (#365), Woodrat and Bulldog since the storm hit. As of today all those trails are cleared except for the occassional tree.

Thank you to one of the local riders out of Outlet Bay who cleared Woodrat today. Half the trail, on the Outlet side, was a disaster. Great work and many of us will benefit from his hardwork.

I spoke to someone who rode Lakeshore and Upper Priest last week and those trails are clear as well.

  • Just wanted to confirm if it is the Upper Priest Lake trail (#302) or Upper Priest River trail (#308)that has been cleared? I took a peek at #302 after the storm and it was a mess. I cut out about a half mile of trail from the Caribou Creek crossing around 7/2 but haven't been back since. I'd like to ride it through to the road at the North end but I doubt it has been cleared that far.

Also, any information on the condition of Navigation (#291) up to and beyond the Navigation campground or on the Plowboy trail (#295)?

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the update. It is Upper Priest Lake trail that has been cleared. I have not been up to Upper Priest River Trail, Plowboy or Navigation yet. If they cleared #302, I bet they cleared it to the Navigation Campground. From there it might be hike-a-bike.

  • The Upper Priest Lake Trail has not been cleared. I tried riding in on Sunday (7/22) and it's still a mess. Someone cut a couple trees out (that I had left)on the section before it turns to Non-motorized but nothing further. I went about 1/4 mile past the turn off to the Geisinger Campground and gave up (just riding, not clearing). Several of the trees are too big for a small saw - too bad I can't sneak in with my ATV and larger saw - I'd have it cleared in a day! I thought Lou from the Forest Service told me it had been cleared from the North end, down to the Geisinger camp - maybe I misunderstood.

Just want to make sure we're talking about the same trails. I'm refering to the following site for trail names/numbers.

According to this, Navigation Trail (#291) goes up the West side of the Upper Lake, starting at Beaver Creek. The Upper Priest Lake Trail (#302) runs up the East side, starting just above Lions Head Campground.

The forest service says the Navigation trail is clear from Beaver Creek all the way to the road at the North end (RD. 1013). The Upper Priest River Trail (#308)is supposedly in good shape. She says they have not done the Plowboy trail or the Lakeview Mt. trail yet.
